Dr. Stephen Cowan, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician with 30 years of clinical experience working with children. He sub-specializes in developmental pediatrics and is New York State certified in Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Cowan is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of both the AAP Committee on Children with Disabilities and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. He founded the Westchester Center for Holistic Families, where he offers holistic evaluation and treatments for children. Dr. Cowan also sees patients at Tournesol Wellness in NYC and is the director of health and education for the nonprofit Tournesol Kids. He has lectured internationally on alternative approaches to health problems in children. Dr. Cowan is the author of Fire Child, Water Child and has contributed chapters to several books about holistic approaches to childhood conditions. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric problems such as attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorders, migraine, Tourette syndrome, asthma, and allergies. Understanding the child as an interrelated part of the family and environment is the central focus of his practice. This approach respects the inseparability of mind, body, and spirit and promotes a deeper understanding of what it means to be healthy.
