Course Description

Two of the most common questions we get about acupuncture from patients and healthcare providers are "does it work?" and "how does it work?" Understanding acupuncture related research is essential for effective communication with healthcare providers and the public about our work. Get the latest updates regarding acupuncture clinical trials and bio-mechanisms of acupuncture with Belinda Anderson, Ph.D, L.Ac., and Arya Nielsen, Ph.D., L.Ac., two of the most well-known researchers in the profession. Meet the man whose discovery about fascia (important in the bio-mechanisms of acupuncture) was hailed as "discovery of a new organ." It was noted by science and news media worldwide, and will likely inform future research in the acupuncture field.

  • Survey Clinical Bio-Mechanism Research in the field of Acupuncture and explore the many factors in that research
  • Examine the many factors in acupuncture related research
  • Discover new developments in pathology/fascia research that may have implications for Chinese medicine

Dr. Belinda Anderson, PCOM Research Faculty, sits on the NIH Advisory Panel for National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, the Federal Government’s lead agency for scientific research on medical and health care practices not generally considered part of conventional medicine.

Dr. Arya Nielsen holds an academic research doctorate. Her research includes both the physiology and therapeutic effect of Gua sha, acupuncture therapies for acute care and the inpatient setting as well as research on the treatment of chronic pain in underserved populations.

Dr. Neil Theise, Liver Pathologist and featured speaker at the 2018 Fascia Research Congress has had his recently published study on interstitium-the new organ covered by every major news outlet in 2018, from the New York Times to National Geographic to Science Today.
